Not sure what you're confused about (except maybe the absurd number of tags I use), but maybe looking at my tags list would help? If you look at, say, character, which is near the top, you can see that there's one head tag and several nested tags under it. I do that by writing the tag as (for example) "character: abby sciuto", and there's a setting somewhere that allows them to be nested.
