[personal profile] whatawaytoburn posting in [community profile] writerslounge
Since we seem to be doing these as fun intoductions, I deleted my comment on the initial post and shall post it here instead!

1) Why Do You Write?
because there are stories in my head. Because I feel like, if they come to me, I should share them. Because sometimes I get tired of keeping the stories to myself. because sometimes the stories get tired of me keeping them to myself. because people need to hear them. Because I think people need to hear them. Because they might be interesting. Because someone might need them (and yes, this is different than 'need to hear'). Because I don't know how to do anything else.

2) What Sort Of Things Inspire You?
Everything. Words, music, people, science, magic, coffee, people walking down the street, an empty journal, my laptops, my stacks of books, my perfume, my jewelry, my pill box, my lamps with their Halloween lanterns, the art on my walls, the art on other people;s walls, other peoples looks, the way someone moves, the way someone speaks, the way they hold themselves or dance or bob their head to their music, the sound of cars, the sound of coffee being made, the sound of pens on paper, the sound of rustling feathers, the sound of someone with chalk creating art on a sidewalk....

I could go on but I think you get the idea.

3) When/Where Do You Write Best?
At a desk. I need a flat surface to lean my computer on. As for where that flat surface is, it doesn't really matter. Sometimes I need to change up my writing space, so I move into a dining room or try and get out to a Starbucks or Panera or something.

4) What Concepts Are You Constantly Trying To Communicate?
I don't really know, honestly. I don't think I am trying to communicate anything beyond the story itself. I let the stories do what they will because i have very little control over what happens. They come to me and we work together, it's a partnership, not a solitary act for me. We work together to create something that I then present to the rest of the world. The concepts that show up in them are a wide and varied sort, different with each story that comes to me.

5) Do You Find There Are Any Recurring Thematic Elements In Your Work?
Yes, certain things come to me over and over again. Memory and identity come back and visit often. Angels come around, as do personifications of various ideas and concepts. The Fae visit in stories and different sort of dynamics, be they family, romantic relationships or platonic are usually intense and wrapped up in one another. I often write about polyamory and queer characters because they find me. I also find that belonging, either to a person or to a group of people or to a place or thing or anything, comes around lot. Ownership, if you will, claiming works as well.
