I love the idea that you get into the deeper aspects of good guys and bad guys.

Being scientifically grounded, in my view, is always a good thing. When a writer can work their own technical knowledge into their fiction, the writing ends up being better and far more intelligent - and memorable, too! I remember certain things I learned this way in secondary school, and was always grateful to authors who would do that.
