Date: 2012-05-07 03:06 pm (UTC)I would absolutely agree with that. All those subtle little threads - ways of rewarding the reader, if you like. The more you put in, the more you get out, and it's kind of a return on your investiture in the book.
I think you're right, too; we want to believe, when we read, that the world is real, so it's natural to want to accept that the characters will live on after the ending, whatever form it takes. (Unless they get killed off and, believe me, I have been yea close to ending books "And then an atomic bomb landed and killed them all. The End." before now... *grin*)
