Right. Intro post.

*wave*

So… I’m a compulsive scribbler. I’ve written for as long as I can remember. Stories and characters come out of nowhere, and won’t leave me alone until they get committed to paper (or disk).

I write because I can’t not do it. Also, given that I have crappy health and a complete inability to hold down a proper job, it provides a means for me to try and not be a complete drain on the state… albeit with limited success.

My stuff ranges across a lot of different genres; horror, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, that thing loosely termed ‘literary’, right across to romance and erotica. Professionally, I’ve published poetry, short stories and articles in various magazines and – more recently – short fiction and novels with a handful of small presses. I write under a bunch of pen names (frequently anonymous or uncredited. *sigh*), but have also just started self-publishing some of my work under my own name. Additionally, I take freelance gigs, both writing and editorial/critique, and work intermittently as a pixel-slinger/cover artist for hire.

More about my stuff can be found here: GLBT ficton (18+) | Het erotica (18+) | Everything else

All three sites are currently undergoing some big overhauls - whole backlist is under revamp. *cringe* It'll be done soon, I swear. S'a total mess.

The idea for this community came about because I believe there are too many divisions among writers. We share so much of our world-view (hey, we consider it normal that there are little people in our heads, dictating things and making demands…), yet it’s hard to actually find writers’ groups that promote free, frank discussion that’s genuinely helpful.

Let’s try to redress that. Treat this comm as somewhere to share as much or as little as you like, and talk about the trials, tribulations and other things starting with 't' that you face as a writer. Got a tip or resource to share? Great! Want some help or advice? Throw it open for discussion. Once we're settled in, I'm hoping some of us will even feel brave enough to offer up some work for critique or workshopping. Hey, it might end up being fun.

Obviously, it's still early days. The plastic wrap is still on the furniture, but hopefully we can make something out of the place. Any suggestions, requests, etc. re: layout, tags, anything else, gimme a shout. Also, if anyone fancies taking on modship, please wave. I live behind my keyboard, except for the times I fall off the end of the world and have bad CFS spells (aka M.E., or 'yuppie flu'), when I'm not around for a few days, at which point it would be useful to have someone else to make sure nothing explodes in a big fiery ball visible from space.

Okay... your turn!

Ages ago, on PoT, we had a post where people listed useful books on writing, or for writers. I'd suggest that we have something similar, but instead of just a post that will vanish into the ether, a tag that takes you to a list. Some time this week, I'll find the PoT post and get us a starting list of recommended books from it.
